Brian Howerton has been the Executive Director of the Vegas Vanguard Percussion Theater (VVPT) since he founded the ensemble back in October of 2004. Mr. Howerton also is the instructor and arranger for marching percussion at The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) (08-current). He was Director/Arranger of percussion in Las Vegas Nevada at multiple high schools from 1997-2011; Cheyenne HS-Foothill HS-Palo Verde HS-Spring Valley HS-Las Vegas HS. Mr. Howerton was on the percussion staff of the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps as a tenor tech (2011-12), and as a bass drum tech (2012-2013).
Brian is the Executive Director/Founder/Arranger/Performer with the Vegas Vanguard Entertainment Drumline (VVED) since organizing the ensemble back in October of 2006. VVED has performed for such artists as Keith Urban, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake, Gene Simmons, Joe Jackson, Toni Braxton, and Shaquille O’Neil. VVEF has performed live on stage at EDC Vegas in 2012 (DJ Thomas Gold) and 2014 (New World Punx). VVED is currently the LED Drumline that performs weekly at Hakkasan Nightclub inside MGM with DJs Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, and many more.
Mr. Howerton was a member of the UNLV 1995 Indoor Percussion Ensemble that competed at PASIC, the 1996 UNLV Indoor Percussion Ensemble that placed 4th at the WGI World Championships in the Independent World Class, and a performer/staff for the 1997 UNLV Indoor Percussion Ensemble (Compline), winning the WGI College Class World Championship in 1997, all under the direction of Brian S. Mason.
While attending The University of Nevada Las Vegas, Howerton performed in the marching percussion section of the UNLV Star of Nevada Marching Band from (1994-1999) and received his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications and Criminal Justice.
Brian has been a clinician for the Nevada Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion, an adjudicator of percussion at local marching band and indoor drumline competitions, and an instructor for the Yamaha Sounds of Summer Drumline Camp.
Mr. Howerton started a percussion camp in 2010 in conjunction with the Las Vegas Student Leadership Clinic, offering local and out of state students with the opportunity to attend a week long percussion camp at a lesser cost of other camps. The camp focused on teaching fundamentals, techniques, sound quality, marching, visual elements in marching percussion, and drum tuning.

John Speas is entering his 5th season as a Front Ensemble Instructor with the Vegas Vanguard. In addition to his duties with VVPT, he is also the Assistant Band Director at Las Vegas High School (2012-current). John has been the percussion instructor at Spring Valley HS (2010-11), Durango HS (2007-10), and the Front Ensemble Instructor for Sierra Vista High School (2009-10), both in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Having grown up in the Atlanta area, John attended the University of Georgia and received his bachelors in Music Performance studying under Professor Thomas McCutchen. At UGA John performed with many university groups including the percussion ensemble, steel drum band, the Redcoat Marching Band as well as various wind and orchestra ensembles. In 2000 John had the privilege of performing with artist like Phil Collins, Toni Braxton and Christina Aguilera in the halftime show at Superbowl XXXIV in Atlanta. John was a member of the 2000 Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps and the 2003 Pariah Marching Percussion Theater. He returned to Pariah in 2004 as the front ensemble instructor. John has taught and arranged for groups in Georgia and Nevada.
Robb has been on the Vegas Vanguard staff since 2006 as a battery technician, bringing his invaluable experience to all aspects of the ensemble. Robb has been an adjudicator for the Nevada Percussive Arts Society, and for several local marching band and indoor percussion competitions. Mr. Sirat has been a Director/Arranger for Percussion at several local high schools in the Las Vegas Valley.
Mr. Sirat was a member of the Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps from (1971-1979), The Crossman Drum and Bugle Corps from (1981-83), and The Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps in (1984-85). He was also a marching percussion instructor with The Blue Devils in (1986-87).
